Brazilian soccer moves US$330 million a year, making it the largest soccer market in the Americas, according to a study by United States consultant Delloite published yesterday, using 2005 data published by the news agency G1. The bulk of the cash is concentrated in the hands of major clubs, especially those in Sao Paulo -- Sao Paulo, Corinthians y Santos -- and in the hands of major stars, like the player Robinho, who was transferred from Brazilian team Santos to Spanish team Real Madrid. Ticket sales represnts only 23 million reales (US$10.9 million) or seven percent of the total earned. The study says that the number of fans attending games has been falling, from around 16,000 per match on average in 1970 to 12,000 per match in 2005.
